VG vs. Dagbladet III

The battle of the online news continues.

September 1st, Dagbladet aka db.no presented this brand new layout.

As a concept, great, looks much cleaner, on the not so bright side; the cillit bang® -pink add covering the entire backspace is lowering the overall news-perception of the online paper, not to mention the awfull red header, breaking in to and color crashingwith the all ready distasteful cillit bang® -pink background.

Well, at least it caught my attention, though in near future, it would not be wrong to demand a certain level of typographical coordination prior publishing.

Dagbladets arch nemesis VG on the other hand, reported no groundbreaking changes this first day of autumn.

Then suddenly, VG fell victim to a très chic technical error. Or maybe the surprise cillit bang® coated db.no, shifted lots of readers to VG instead leading to a late September 1st server overload.

Finally awsome, right down to the cracked screen, looking at the super sweet missing rascal kittens found safely in the server room.

Yeah, that’s how its done!

Only question remaining is; why was I not invited to this partey?

Eva Joly for president

Despite being the cradle of feminism, the state of France have never ever been run by a female president.

Though one could argue former emperror Napoleon I being quite beyond feminine, at least during his official photo shoots. (painting: Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres)

Now those days are long gone and the desire for a change is on a rise, hence Nicolas Sarkozy will be heading for some serious competition as Mrs Eva Joly is expected to run up against him for presidency, election 2012.

Will Joly be their saviour?

Considering her resume, quoting Reuters on this “Last year Joly, who moved to France as a teenager to work as an au pair, was employed by Iceland to help investigate white-collar crime which led to the collapse of the island country’s financial system in the fall of 2008.”

After all, the mythological year of 2012 might not be the end of the world, but perhaps the start of a new era, a brand new french revolution lead by our very own Eva Joly.

Pia Haraldsen for Agape

Despite tons of criticism emphasising Pia Haraldsens lack of formal design education and mooching off former royal connections, she delivered a decent collection of party dresses during this years Oslo fashion week, within its segment, for Agape.

Education is not everything either, take Kjell Inge Røkke for instance, he does not have any formal shrimp-fishing education, still he occasionally ventures out in the fjords at break of dawn, returning later, early in the afternoon to Aker Brygge with a nest full of fresh shrimps for sale and consumption.

Internationally speaking (euroasia/ex-soviet), the combination flashy design + royal connection + ability to be at the right place at the right time + working hard to get what you want, could potentially be just the right recipe for a brand new Norwegian fashion empire.

After all, her entrance to celebrity was through a bold fashion statement, her stay in the norwegian glossy magazine scene mainly due to an ability to dress to impress. Having her very own distinguishable style, separate from what`s normally seen on the domestic red carpets.

It may not be Galliano, not even close, but its certainly not that bad.

Like the brightest beam of light shining down from a clear blue sky, just after rain.

Fam Irvoll`s collection represents the start of a new era.

Firstly, a diverging into two lines, one for children and one for grown ups. (who apparently refused to ever grow up)

Second, the cake hats was a hit, but after two years getting kinda old. These brand new brilliant cartoon bubble hats

will most certainly be an ice-breaker out&about in awsome Oslo this fall/winter season.

After tree years in the game, she still stays true to her concepts, even managed to sharpen it even more.

This is what success is made of (in addition to hard work, that is!)

According to alkoholloven, any promotion of beverages containing an alcohol percentage above 2,5, is strictly forbidden.

But, according to grunnloven§100 (stating the freedom of speech), which beats alkoholloven, it is OK to promote alcohol as long as it takes form of an editorial review (news).

Well, to day is Life in a day day, a historic global experiment to create a user-generated feature film. The most compelling and distinctive footage will be edited into a feature film, produced by Ridley Scott and directed by Kevin Macdonald.

Apple

Contrasting other companies, they have paved the way & succeed with a brand new marketing strategy. In addition to reinventing the cell phone.

Instead of 1# identify a need from prospective consumers 2# make and market such a product. Steve Jobs (aka the apple guy),have taken one giant step ahead, making things that people did not know that they wanted.

Kind of genius, also following this strategy, a chines company offering this super sweet tablet gadget. Taking you back to those days where phones were used for calls. (source)

Despite the fact that I am the very kind of novelty seeking person easily seduced by high quality products wrapped in a fancy package, I have never owned an apple product (except the super chic earphones I accidentally stole during Oslo fashion week!).

However, this is by no means any kind of statement. Actually, I would have preferred buying an iPhone 4 (including the antenna drama) and free rubber band solution, over my Samsung galaxy, which did not include any problems at all.

Apple, a brand which so caters to my desires.

There must be a marketing a glitch somewhere….

Anyway, forgot where I was going with this…

Probably just needed a little touch of mac, to brighten up this gloomy summer day!
