One step behind…

The Devil works in Costume

Despite the ongoing resession, Norwegian fashion magazine Costume continues to grow in all the right directions.

In addition to growing in numbers, they have brought on a fierce “real-life” drama. Ugly Betty style.

It all started when editor-in-chief Vanessa Rudjord married a hot millionaire. Then she had a baby…

Due to maternity leave, she was temporarily replaced by Kristin Valla, a reluctant writer.

As new chief editor, Kristin did not embrace the unwritten laws of fashion magazines. After all she was/is a writer, not a fashionista. Two professions that might look similar on the surface, but is worlds apart. Life of a writer is internall, while life of a fashion-editor must be 100% externally oriented! A cultural conflict was inevitable…

The state of creative minds at the Costume office was clashing.

To top it off, Kristin made the cardinal mistake of going to Paris fashion week all by herself, leaving seven miserable co-workers behind. When she came back, she had been replaced.

The replacement brought on Kristin`s long lost “assertive international fashion editor persona”, she responded by suing Bonnier (the magazine owner) for tarnishing here reputation and loss of income. Way to go…

In the end Bonnier/Costume lost the trail but won a ”reputation”, after all, 350 000 NOK is a small price to pay for such edgy and interesting publicity.

The magazine is now looking better than ever. Covering the March edition, international supermodel siri Tollerød. Wearing a Chanel dress and perfect makeup by ex-norwegian Sara Rostrup.

Lets hope this little incidence turns out to be a win-win situation, for every one. Costume continue their fast growing publishing & Kristin Valla returns to what she does best, writing.
